Remembering Mira

Five amazing months. Difficult, crazy, unbelievable, full of love.
It is really important to our family that we do things to continue to share Mira's story, to spread the love that brought her into our arms, and keep her memory alive. We're estabilishing traditions and joining forces with some wonderful organizations in her memory and want to encourage you to do the same!

February is Heart Month!

Every February is Heart Month,  a federally recognized event to focus on heart health, and we want to bring awareness to congenital heart defects, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, and advocate for research and advancements in pediatric cardiology. We ask that our friends and family make Mira their Valentine by donating to Receptions for Research - The Greg Olsen Foundation, and change their social media profile pictures to honor her.

The Heart of Dylan Foundation

The Heart of Dylan Foundation was founded in 2017 by Sheryl Whitley in honor of her son, Dylan, who died as a result of complications of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. The Heart of Dylan Foundation aims to serve families affected by Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, especially those in the Charlotte region. Our hope is to provide families with emotional and financial support in their journeys with a heart warrior, and to support research initiatives to improve the long-term prognosis of these brave children. Dylan  was a student at Briana's previous school, and he passed away the week we learned about Mira's heart condition. His joy was a huge motivating factor in our saying YES to adopting a baby with a heart condition. He was a reminder that while Mira's condition would be serious, it would also be worth it just to love her for however much time we would have.  After Mira died, The Heart of Dylan Foundation sponsored our family  for Christmas. Sheryl asked Briana to be a board member for the foundation, and Briana was thrilled to help.  We are excited to see what The Heart of Dylan Foundation can do for other heart families.

Loving on Levine

We make it a priority to love on the LCH6 and LCH staff in memory of Mira, and to show our appreciate for how much they loved on her during the 76 days she spent in-patient.  In June, to celebrate Mira's birthday, we plan to bring the nursing staff cupcakes and in early December, we bring coffee and doughnuts to thank them for their dedication and love for families and patients during the holidays. We are forever changed by the LCH staff. Our friendship with them is enduring. We love them, and know that they carry Mira in their hearts each day.
